Internal Audit Services Department Background

The Internal Audit Services (IAS) department consists of 20+ business professionals, with a diverse set of backgrounds and skill sets in the areas of accounting, finance, information technology, and healthcare/clinical administration, that collaboratively work together to provide independent, objective assurance, consulting and investigative services designed to add value and improve the organization"s operations, as well as to sustain the Company"s culture and values. IAS helps the organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.*


Your responsibilities:

The Internal Audit Intern will assist in documenting / updating business process flows and perform tests of controls in conjunction with our annual assessment of internal controls over financial reporting, as well as other operational, financial, technology or regulatory audits as may be requested. In addition, this individual will perform various administrative procedures applicable to maintaining and conducting department operations and activities; and will be expected to maintain all organizational ethical and applicable professional standards, including compliance with The IIA"s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.

A primary focus of procedures performed will be to determine whether the organization"s network of risk management, control, and governance processes, as designed and represented by management, are adequate and functioning in a manner to ensure that:

1.Risks are appropriately identified and managed.

2.Interaction with the various governance groups occurs as needed.

3.Significant financial, managerial, and operating information is accurate, reliable, and timely.

4.Employee"s actions are in compliance with policies, standards, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

5.Resources are acquired economically, used efficiently, and adequately protected.

6.Programs, plans, and objectives are achieved.

7.Quality and continuous improvement are fostered in the organization"s control process.

8.Significant legislative or regulatory issues impacting the organization are recognized and properly addressed.

This individual will have the opportunity for exposure to the audit process, documenting transaction flows, tests of controls, substantive tests of transactions, and interaction with our external auditor, Ernst & Young LLP.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Second or third year accounting or finance student, with a minimum of one accounting class and a GPA of 3.2 or better

  • Strong interpersonal skills; including written and verbal communication

  • Strong initiative and self-starter mentality

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities in a fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment

  • Must possess an analytical mind and be able to think tactically with respect to threats, risks and risk management processes

  • Must possess a passion for excellence, a desire to be challenged and be self-motivated

  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook)
